Mask

1. Upload the three (3) inspiration images to your Blog (or link to your Photobucket account). Explain why you selected the inspiration pieces.
I chose the 3 inspiration images because I was looking for masks that would fit in with the theme of autumn that is happening right now, which happens to be my favorite time of year. I looked for masks with nice colors and lines to help inspire me.

2. Include the analysis and description (art criticism steps) of the three (3) inspiration pieces.
Inspiration 1:

1.   Description – Describe what you see.  (subject matter)?
A cracked brownish mask surrounded by leaves and acorns
2.   Formal analysis – (form)  What principles and elements were used and how are they used?
Lines – the lines of the leaves and the ribbon
Color – the colors of autumn
Symmetry – the leaves are symmetrical

Inspiration 2:

1.  Description – Describe what you see.  (subject matter)?
A gold hued mask wrapped in autumn leaves with colorful beads
2.  Formal analysis – (form)  What principles and elements were used and how are they used?
Lines – the lines of the leaves as they sweep off of the mask
Color – the bright colors of the beads against the colors of autumn on the leaves

Inspiration 3:

1. Description – Describe what you see.  (subject matter)?
A crackly painted golden mask framed with autumnal leaves, to be tied on with red ribbon
2. Formal analysis – (form)  What principles and elements were used and how are they used?
Texture – the mask itself is painted with a cracked texture
Form – The leaves are 3d shapes that help wrap around the face

4. Explain how you used the Elements and Principles in your finished mask.
I used multiple fall colors to help evoke the feeling of autumn. It’s hard to tell in the pictures, but when worn the beads hang in straight lines to help draw the attention up towards the mask and the feathers stick straight out at the top to help show symmetry. Forms of many different types were used, including a couple of birds and a spider.

5. Share your opinion of your finished mask and what you thought about creating the mask.
I think it turned out pretty good, definitely better than my horrible drawing skills would let on. I enjoyed creating the mask because I could use already created items and arrange them, which I find a lot easier than trying to draw or paint anything myself.
